As a supporter of FACES, we invite you to take a more active role in the campaign by joining one of the four working committees. Because members of the committee are located around the country, most of the communication occurs through e-mail and conference call. In order to join a committee, you or your organization must be a member of FACES. To become a member of FACES, please fill out the application form which can be found on our website (www.facessolutions.net) or contact our office at 202-544-6564 x 5 or faces@mcc.org for an application. Members are encouraged to pay a membership donation of $25/year or $15/year for low income or students. Below is a list of the committees and their descriptions. If you are interested in any of these committees and are already a member of FACES, please answer the questions below and send them to info@facessolutions.net. If you have any questions about the committees, please direct them to the Committee Chair. Name: 1. MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE FUNCTION: Stre ngthens the outreach, organizing, and advocacy efforts of the national campaign by facilitating communication and information exchanges among local chapters and individual members. The committee is a forum to plan and coordinate local efforts for national campaigns and serves as a system to support and leverage one another's work. The membership committee presents an annual plan for membership recruitment and membership services to the Board. QUALIFICATIONS: Interested in or engaged in outreach efforts with the local chapter or in your local area EXPECTED PARTICIPATION: Most discussions will be through e-mail. They may entail sharing ideas from work in your local chapter or area, developing ideas for national campaigns, and other engaging exchanges to strengthen outreach, organizing, and advocacy efforts at the local levels. CHAIR: Ninna Roco, nbroco@hotmail.com 2. PROGRAM/POLICY COMMITTEE FUNCTION: Reviews and revises strategic plan to be presented to the Board for action and will ensure that policies and programs of FACES are implemented. The strategy deals with pressuring the U.S. administration, working with Congress, legal actions, outreach to international organizations, as well as specific campaigns related to the strategy. QUALIFICATIONS: Some experience or familiarity with one or more of the following: lobbying, legal work (especially international, tort, or environmental law), federal departments (e.g., White House, State Dept., DoD, EPA, etc.) United Nations and other international organizations, international NGOs, Philippine politics, and/or campaign development. EXPECTED PARTICIPATION: Most discussions will be through e-mail. They may entail review of campaign proposals, position papers, political analyses, Congressional resolutions, letters to government officials, and proposed changes to the strategy. Members may be asked to help out in implementing specific campaigns. CHAIR: Jorge Emmanuel, jemmanuel@mindspring.com 3. FINANCE COMMITTEE FUNCTION: Develops and implements the financial plan for FACES which includes raising funds through fundraising drives and proposals to foundations, developing an annual plan to be presented to the Board, reviewing the organization's financial statements, and providing oversight over the finances of FACES. QUALIFICATIONS: Interest and/or experience in fundraising and financial management. EXPECTED PARTICIPATION: Participation in e-mail discussions and conference calls to discuss development and implementation of finance and fundraising plans CHAIR: Aileen Trilles, a_v_t_@hotmail.com
4. TECHNICAL COMMITTEE The Technical Committee serves as a technical resource for the campaign to clean up the former Clark Air Force Base and Subic Naval Facility. The goal is to help build the technical capacity of affected communities and NGOs for their meaningful oversight and participation in the overall cleanup process. The Technical Committee promotes and facilitates the implementation of environmental and health studies at Clark and Subic, assists in the review or interpretation of technical material for the campaign, and serves as a clearinghouse for research initiatives related to the bases cleanup issue. QUALIFICATIONS: Background in health or related sciences, or in engineering. EXPECTED PARTICIPATION: Members will participate in online discussions of technical issues, review technical reports, and write interpretive summaries. Members maybe asked to help assemble databases and help obtain funds to promote environmental studies.
